Integration between AX and vertical lift modules leads to dramatic time savings

Integration between Kardex Remstar vertical lift modules and Dynamics AX using Axcite Warehouse Automation saves manual data entry at VM Tarm: “Even if you are picking 240 parts, there is only a single button to press. This leads to a dramatic time saving," says Warehouse Manager Jens Christian Pedersen.

It is Saturday morning. Jens Christian Pedersen, Warehouse Manager at VM Tarm, is enjoying a morning coffee at home. The phone rings. A fitter at the factory acutely needs a monitor for a reversing camera to be installed on a large tanker.

In ‘the old days’, a few years ago – before VM Tarm made the transition to Kardex Remstar vertical lift modules with Axcite Warehouse Automation, it would have been difficult to get hold of such a product in a hurry. But not today.

Jens Christian Pedersen sends a transfer journal to the vertical lift module and asks the fitter to press a single button on the machine. A few seconds later, the fitter has the monitor in his hand and can continue his work.

The purchase of five Kardex Remstar vertical lift modules has revolutionised the warehouse at VM Tarm. 7,000 of the 8,000 item numbers are now stored in drawers in the 15-meter high machines, each of which contains 300 square meters of drawer space.

“We can handle twice as many items as we could with the same staff back when we had normal warehouse shelves,” says Jens Christian Pedersen.

The vertical lift modules account for much of the time saving directly. The integration with Dynamics AX saves more time and offers other advantages.

“Even if you need 240 parts, there is only a single button to press. This obviously leads to a dramatic time saving.”

The warehouse entry and picking processes are controlled from Dynamics AX

“We planned the integration as part of the investment from the outset, and our contact person at Kardex Remstar contacted Bredana’s specialist in the area,” explains Jens Christian Pedersen.

With the integration with Dynamics AX, the warehouse entry and picking processes are managed from the ERP system.

The biggest time saving is achieved by transferring the transfer journal to the vertical lift module. The warehouse employee simply has to press a button, and the machine delivers all the parts in the journal. Without integration with Dynamics AX, all the item numbers would have to be entered in the vertical lift module.

“Even if you need 240 parts, there is only a single button to press. This obviously leads to a dramatic time saving,” says Jens Christian Pedersen.

Another great advantage of the integration is that there are no data entry errors at the vertical lift module. The machine delivers exactly what was listed in the transfer journal from Dynamics AX.

“Kardex Remstar vertical lift modules are completely closed. No-one retrieves items directly. When we also avoid data entry errors, we can always be confident that the stock count in the machine matches the count shown in Dynamics AX,” says Jens Christian Pedersen.

The Bredana integration also supports warehouse entry, and Dynamics AX is automatically updated with the feedback from the vertical lift module about the products received into storage.
