Furnipart has high expectations for the WMS solution

"We are going to double the picking speed when the entire warehouse management is optimized and the goods are in the right places," says CEO and co-owner of Furnipart, Rasmus Byriel.

"Dynamics 365 will also help increase our competitiveness because we will be better at supporting and developing our customers, 'talking' into their systems and sharing customer forecasts."

Overall, the implementation of the new solution is a crucial prerequisite for achieving the growth target in the strategic plan 2024–28.

"Our goal is a growth of 35 percent within the next three years," says Rasmus Byriel.

When the strategic plan was laid out in 2023, Furnipart had no doubt that "something had to be done with logistics."

"We had also started buying IT systems alongside AX 2012 because we had difficulty meeting all the demands from our customers," says Business Process Manager Morten Præst.

Initially, the idea was to acquire a WMS system that would work with the existing ERP system.

However, Morten Præst, who is the internal project manager for the new solution, questioned whether it would be appropriate to implement a new WMS system and then – perhaps a few years later – a new ERP solution.

The considerations led to a desire to switch to Dynamics 365, and after HNCO had been involved in the process as an advisor, Bredana Axcite came on board with its expertise in Supply Chain Management.

"We had doubts about whether the WMS module in Dynamics 365 could solve the tasks for us. But Bredana Axcite's needs analysis assured us that it was the right solution, supplemented with Bredana Axcite's own modules," says Morten Præst.

The initial collaboration with Bredana Axcite also gave confidence that the process would be successfully completed:

"All the consultants have previously been employed in a company and know what they are talking about," says Morten Præst.

"It's also a matter of chemistry. I like the people, and I also like that there is direct access to top management. If we need to discuss something during the process, we can quickly gather decision-makers around the table and move forward," says Rasmus Byriel, noting that Bredana Axcite and Furnipart are a good match in terms of size.

A change project – not an IT delivery

Furnipart has also bought into Bredana Axcite's approach to the project as a joint effort, where Bredana Axcite is seen as a partner helping Furnipart develop and implement its new ERP system.

"Another bidder would have kept us completely out of it, and simply delivered the system without our involvement. That ultimately decided the matter," says Rasmus Byriel.

The focus is now on optimizing processes toward a solution close to standard ERP. This requires change management and anchoring the project in the company’s leadership, which will play an active role in the project’s steering committee.

The super users also play a key role in the collaboration with Bredana Axcite, and it is essential that they – like the other internal stakeholders – can dedicate the necessary time to the project.

Before go-live, Bredana Axcite ensures that employees are ready to work with the new system by testing them.

"I think that’s really good. After all, we’re the ones who have to run it when we go live – though we might get a bit sweaty," says Morten Præst with a smile.

Greater security, confidence, and many smart solutions

In addition to optimizing core processes, which will contribute to significantly faster and smoother workflows within warehousing and logistics, Rasmus Byriel highlights the security and confidence that come with a modern ERP solution.

"We are finding that some of our customers are beginning to take an interest in our ERP solution. How secure is it? And where is the data stored? We need to be able to document much more," says Rasmus Byriel.

In this area, there is a significant advantage with AX 2012 and Dynamics 365 Finance and Supply Chain Management, which were born in an era with high compliance requirements.

The specific solutions offered by the new system provide a range of improvements and smart features.

The creation of product master data is streamlined, data quality is enhanced, and the PIM solution will work optimally with Dynamics 365.

The e-commerce solution is better integrated with ERP, the quotation process becomes easier, and it becomes simpler to manage framework agreements and recalculate delivery times.

Freight calculation is automated, and the Landed Cost module provides full transparency in the purchasing process.

Many manual processes in invoice approval become redundant. Posting can even occur automatically if there is a match between the purchase order and the invoice.
